him and Mandi along with Mandi’s parents with us. Thanks also to
Heath Blair for doing a fine job at the evening service. Thanks as
well to Chris Dowdy for teaching the adult class on Wednesday
night. Please continue to keep the Highway 9 Gospel Meeting in your

SACRED PLACES
The cover article for the
November 28, 2007 issue of U. S. News & World Report is “Sacred
Places”. Several articles survey sacred places from around the
religious world – the Egyptian temples at Karnak, Ayers Rock in
Australia, the Ganges River in India, Mecca, the Western Wall in
Jerusalem and many other places. The series of articles shows clearly
that man is a worshiping creature. Besides the legendary sacred places
of history, an event like 9/ll or the establishment of the Viet Nam
Memorial prompts homemade shrines to be established.
Most of us have places that
are special to us for various reasons. I have more than once been
humbled as I found myself in the presence of especially striking
examples of our God’s creative power, or in seeing demonstrations of His
power to change human hearts.
“The LORD reigneth; let the
earth rejoice; let the multitude of isles be glad thereof. Clouds and
darkness are round about him: righteousness and judgment are the
habitation of his throne. A fire goeth before him, and burneth up his
enemies round about. His lightnings enlightened the world: the earth
saw and trembled. The hills melted like wax at the presence of the
LORD, at the presence of the Lord of the whole earth. The heavens
declare his righteousness, and all the people see his glory” (Psalm
97:1-6).
Although man has required
sacred places to be close to God, Jesus came so that we might worship
God anywhere. He told the Samaritan woman at the well:
“Woman, believe me, the hour
cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem,
worship the Father. Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we
worship; for salvation is of the Jews. But the hour cometh, and now is,
when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in Spirit and in
truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and
they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth” (John
4:21-24).

A Thought or Two…
Life is fragile – handle with prayer.
If prayer does not remove the mountain, then
climb it.
If we hem in both ends of the day with prayer,
it won’t be so likely to unravel in the middle.

God’s Word
1 John 2:1-6 NKJV
1 My little children, these things I write to
you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an
Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.
2 And He Himself is the propitiation for our
sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world.
3 Now by this we know that we know Him, if we
keep His commandments.
4 He who says, "I know Him," and does not keep
His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
5 But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of
God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him.
6 He who says he abides in Him ought himself
also to walk just as He walked.
