“O, Be Careful Little Eyes…”

As VBS quickly approaches, we think of the children’s song ‘O, Be Careful Little Eyes What You See…’. But what about “Big” eyes? Jesus said unless we adults are humble and teachable like children, we can have no part of the Kingdom of heaven. (Matt. 19:14).

* “O, Be careful little (big) eyes what you see” – “We don’t see the world as it is, but as we are.” If we are deceived by prejudice or flattery, we never see the world as it really is. “To the defiled, nothing is pure.” (Titus 1:15).

1. The eye can be the gateway to lust, if allowed.
2. ‘…whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed
adultery with her in his heart.” (Matt.5:28).
3. Solution? Job said, “I have a made a covenant with my eyes…”
(Job 31:1).
4. Be careful and see God’s reality! “While we do not look at the things
which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things
which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are
eternal.” (II Cor. 4:18)

* “O, Be careful little (big) ears what you hear!” - Some are anxious to hear gossip, rumors, complaining, and even about the fall of other Christians; such are being fitted for an eternal millstone! (Luke 17:2).

1. Some think that everything they hear is about them or their family; to
the surprise of some, the world does not revolve around us and our
families. (II Tim. 3:7).
2. Be careful and hear God’s Word and say along with David, “Your word
I have hidden in my heart that I might not sin against you.” (Psalm
119:11).

So, “Watch your eyes, ears, mouth, hands and feet, for the Father’s up above looking down in tender love.”

…to be continued next week.

-Tom

God’s Word

Ephesians 4:25-32

25 Therefore, putting away lying, "Let each one of you speak truth with his neighbor," for we are members of one another.
26 Be angry, and do not sin": do not let the sun go down on your wrath,
27 nor give place to the devil.
28 Let him who stole steal no longer, but rather let him labor, working with his hands what is good, that he may have something to give him who has need.
29 Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.
30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.
31 Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice.
32 And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God in Christ forgave you.
